Jim has been teaching meditation in Beaverton as part of the Portland Insight Meditation Community (PIMC) since 2000. Our community practices Insight Meditation in the Theravadan Buddhist Tradition. Jim offers day long retreats on Saturdays throughout the year. (See Retreat Schedule)

In addition Jim is currently working with several senior centers in the area, presenting mindful movement (QiGong) to the residents. Jim also work at several fitness centers presenting a simple Tai Chi form designed to enhance the sense of balance, body awareness and overall health. Presented in a meditative space, these movements deepen the awareness of the senses and feeling body. (See Class Descriptions.)

Prior to living in Portland, Jim taught QiGong, meditation and stress management at the intentional community, School of the Natural Order, in Baker, Nevada for 16 years. During his time there he absorbed influences from various traditions of concentration meditation and studied general semantics as a tool for dealing with stress.
